Diet Yourself Properly to Keep Fit

Once upon a time, Britain’s doctors were in puzzle about the fact that children in some industrial cities were liable to suffer from a disease, which made them very ill and left them with bent bones. It was designated as rickets. At the same time, the doctors found that the youngsters in the fishing ports seemed free from this ailment.

They made inquiries into the contrast and found the answer in time. The cause turned out to be short of calcium, which is indispensable for the building of strong bones. This cannot be obtained unless there is vitamin D in our food. The fishermen’s children were eating bread dipped in fish oil and it was this oil which keep them clear of the dreadful illness, simply becasue fish oil is rich in vitamin D. That is why the fishermen’s children were fit and they city children, who were denied it, were sickly.

This story teaches us that we must diet ourselves on proper diet so that we may get all the things we need to be healthy, including all the substances called vitamins which are usually found in minute quantities.

We must also take in just the right amount of proteins, which are the building blocks of life and used by the body to make different types of blood cells, muscle fibres, hair, nerve cells. They also make up a jelly-like substance called cytoplasm, which living cells must contain.

Some people, especially the women who sue beauty, turn pale at the mention of fats. Actually they are stored as a supply of energy. Besides, we need such carbohydrates as sugar and starch to supply energy to help the muscles work. Traces of mineral salts, such as iron, are needed to make new red blood cells and calcium is necessary for teeth and bones.

Therefore, when we sit down to meal, we should never be choosy but should eat every foodstuff in such a right way as required by our bodies.
